Campeonato Marlboro Formula Ford 1986
My first season in Formula Ford 1600 in Spain. The 20 cars from the Formula Ford Championship at Brands Hatch were shipped to Spain and sold to Spanish racing drivers. We went to Madrid to collect the cars and the RACE put on a very good reception for us at the Golf Club at Jarama. There was a mini series of 4 races 3 at Jarama and 1 at Jerez (the inaugural meeting at this circuit in December 1985). I had not driven a racing car since 1977 and did not know the Spanish circuits so was at a disadvantage here. My moment happen on the hairpin entering the pit straight. I remember over steer going into the corner and then riding the piano strip coming out of it "nothing in between". After the race I was told that I had done a 360 degree spin without loosing speed and that the whole grandstand had stood up and applauded.
